TECHNOLOGY AND ALLIANCES DRIVE SUNBELT LOGISTICS GROUP INTO FUTURE

Toronto, Ontario‹New software technology is driving the future of transportation logistics throughout the world. Sunbelt Logistics Group, operating from the Ontario Food Terminal here in Toronto, has started riding this new technology into the future with the advent of their new on-line shipment tracking system. A recent strategic alliance with a similar logistics company in Mexico, when combined with the new technology, now assures seamless, door-to-door service to and from any point in North America.

"The future of supply chain management hinges upon our ability to take advantage of emerging software technologies," says Jaime Furman, P.Eng, President of Sunbelt Logistics Group. "New software is being introduced at a rapid pace, but one needs to be cautious in deciding what technologies will improve your business and when to introduce them", he adds. "For Sunbeltıs customers, I think itıs important that we donıt rush to get every new technology as it comes onto the market. It is much more important to introduce software that has been proven effective, that will be of benefit to our customers, and that we can introduce seamlessly into our operation. Our new on-line shipment tracking software is a perfect example of a seamless introduction of new technology.

Taking 24-hour a day, seven-day a week shipment tracking one step further, Sunbelt introduced the software to enable customers to track their products instantly, throughout North America. The addition of the technology has proven a success with their customers. "The communication between Sunbelt and Campbell Soup Company has always been very good", says Don Bateman, Logistics Manager for Campbell Soup Companyıs Listowel, Ontario plant. "Our Listowel plant operates 24 hours a day and seven days a week, so Sunbeltıs introduction of on-line tracking has provided us with an excellent tool‹one that enables us to keep business operating around the clock without undue interruption. Any questions we have at any time of the day or night can be answered within seconds of logging onto the Sunbelt web site.

Strategic alliances are also a significant contributor to effective supply chain management, according to Furman. "Working with another leader in transportation logistics will improve the speed and efficiency of our services, particularly when it comes to load transfers at the border, customs clearance and paperwork. With this new alliance, we are now a one-stop shop for all of our customers' transportation needs.

Along with the new strategic alliance and the addition of new technology, Sunbelt has undertaken some other changes. "With the introduction of the on-line tracking system, we felt our image also needed to reflect the future", Furman explains. "Since our logo was already well recognized, we did not want to change the major elements that our customers are familiar with. What we came up with was a more sophisticated treatment of our logo, with new colors, an updated style and a new slogan that can carry the company forward into the future.

Sunbelt Logistics Group provides personalized, flexible logistics solutions that meet the individualized needs of each customer they serve. The company operates from their state-of-the-art facility at the Ontario Food Terminal that includes 90,000 square feet of computer-controlled cold storage. The company specializes in transportation temperature controlled and time-sensitive commodities throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico. The company provides seamless service into and out of Mexico and to and from all points throughout North America.
